FERMI Call For Proposals

The Sixteenth call for user experiments at the FERMI FEL-1 and FEL-2 free-electron laser facility, TeraFERMI, CITIUS and T-ReX laboratories, located at Elettra - Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A., has been extended to May 31st, 2024.

TeraFERMI also accepts “off-line” proposals for material’s characterization with THz time domain spectroscopy in the linear regime.

Call for proposals

The deadline for proposal submission for beamtime allocation is Fri, 31 May 2024

Before preparing your proposal, please carefully check the information available at the address:  http://www.elettra.eu/lightsources/fermi.html

If you need more information about the FEL properties, the beamlines and the other experimental facilities, please send a message to the email address:
A new FEL configuration able to deliver few-femtosecond pulses generated in super-radiance mode is available. Should you need this capability for performing your experiment, you have to discuss in advance this option with the FERMI staff (). Draft proposals requiring this operation mode should be submitted to  at least 15 days before the deadline.

On-line proposal submission is possible using the Virtual Users Office (VUO), at the following address:  https://vuo.elettra.trieste.it/..

NEWS at LDM Endstation

An array of four multi-resolution electron Time-of-Flight spectrometer, colloquially termed the "Cookiebox", will be available at the LDM endstation; technical specifications of the spectrometer are available at:

https://journals.iucr.org/s/issues/2021/05/00/ys5104/

This equipment, accessible through a collaboration with the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center throughout 2025, is scheduled to remain at LDM for a limited period of 12 months, including the phases of installation and commissioning.
Users interested in leveraging this spectrometer are advised to contact Michele Di Fraia:  and Razib Obaid: , well in advance with respect of the submission deadline and have to acknowledge the inherent risks associated with the aforementioned 12-month operational limitation. Specifically, potential delays in the installation or commissioning processes may necessitate to list some proposals in a reserve list whose validity will cease altogether at the end of the 12 months.
